Sabina: magical landscapes
This itinerary goes through a landscape interspersed with mountain
peaks, solitary valleys, and gorges with limpid waters, ancient villages
and mystical lands.
The tour starts from Antrodoco, the roman town of Interocrium (= Village
among the mountains), situated on a small hill between two valleys.

In the main square worthy of a visit, there
is the Church of S.Maria Assunta, with a beautiful Romanesque portal; just
out of the town entrance, you will visit the ancient Baptistery of S.
Giovanni (IX century) and the Church of S. Maria extra moenia, founded on
the site of a pre-existing roman temple and dated from the V century; the
Church was terminated on the XII century in Romanesque style.
Leaving Antrodoco, you will visit the medieval Abbey of Saints Quirico e
Giuditta, recently restored.
The last stop is a wild place, the Velino gorges, a beautiful ravine
excavated by the Velino River
