Sabina: nature, gastronomy, history and old villages
The Sabina region extends just from North of Rome towards east
through a landscape of mountain peaks, valleys, olive trees and offers to
visitors splendid natural scenery and a great historic- artistic
patrimony. |
 |
This itinerary starts showing you the natural
patrimony of Sabina's waters: five miles far from Rieti, there are two
small lakes, last remains of the Great Reatino Lake, which in ancient time
occupied the Rieti Plane: the lakes of Lungo and Ripasottile, a natural
reserve.
Today this reserve is important for its bird fauna: migratory groups stop
here during the passage from Russian steppe to the Gulf of Guinea.
Leaving the reserve you will visit the medieval village of Labro, an
ancient feud rich of olive groves and vineyards: from the ancient tower of
the city, you can have a beautiful view of the whole valley.
After tasting the the local products in a typical restaurant at lunch
time, you will enjoy the silence of the Sabina into the splendid scenery
of Convent of Greccio, the Franciscan Bethlem: here, in 1223, Francis
portrayed for the first time the nativity of Christ, the Live Nativity. |
