Subiaco and Palestrina
A 7-hour sightseeing-tour to the discovery of the monasteries
founded in the VI Century by St. Benedict, and one of the most important
Hellenic sanctuary of ancient times.

Subiaco, where history has left an
extraordinary and heterogeneous testament, in which are the imposing ruins
of the villa which Nero had built in the narrow gulley of the Aniene
river, and where St. Benedict founded his first coenobium, using materials
from the ancient villa for the construction of the monasteries of Sacro
Speco and of Saint Scolastica.
Palestrina (ancient Praeneste) where the Sanctuary of the Fortuna
Primigenia was brought back to light by the bombings of World War II, and
where the National Museum of Archaeology contains findings from
excavations at the temple and the nearby necropilis, as is the large
polichrome nilotic mosaic called l'Inondazione del Nilo a work dating back
to the II Century B.C. that is of exeptional importance for the
understanding of ancient art.
The tour includes car pick up from the hotel, transfers to Subiaco,
typical restaurant (meals not included in the price), Palestrina, and back
to hotel.
The tour is for a party of max 4 people, or party of max 8 people; and it
includes private car transfers with driver/guide and site tickets. |
