TAXIS
Licensed taxis are found in special taxi-lanes, and have a meter. If anyone comes up to you randomly or at any of the other major tourist magnets, muttering ‘Taxi?’ always refuse, as they are likely to charge you up to 400 per cent more than the normal rate. When you pick up a taxi at a rank or hail one in the street, the meter should read zero or the minimum fare, currently about 2-3 EURO for the first 200m, after which the charge goes up rapidly according to time and distance. Taxis in Rome and Florence are expensive.
