The hamlet lays a few kilometers south of Castellina in Chianti, along the "Chiantigiana", the roman road that leads from Florence to Siena
The Mazzei family, owners of Fonterutoli since 1435, has been passionately involved in the making of wine from their vineyards for over five hundred years. The family villa, on the main square next to the church, is the heart of the little hamlet. Grouped around it are the village cottages, amongst which are five magnificently restored apartments.
Each apartment is completely independent, with separate entrances from the street. The decor is the work of the Marchesa who has furnished each one with a delightful country-house elegance using many family paintings and antiques. An additional apartment has been made out of an old farmhouse outside the village, in a particularly magical location.
A small trattoria which intrue tuscan fashion doubles as local grocer and public telephone, serves local country fare

The simple entrance door of this apartment, hides some stone steps that reveal on the top a spacious and charming loggia, ideally furnished to serve as outdoor living and dining room during the hot summer months. This pleasant apartment centres around this loggia, that looks over the beautiful panorama of the Chianti hills. The home of the owner of the farm during the winter months, Pastore is another typical example of Tuscan country house, represented by the use of natural materials, such as wood and terracotta, and by the simple elegant style of the decor.
