The Cacchiano Castle, built in the 10th century by the Ricasoli Firidolfi family, formed part of a series of fortifications which supported the Brolio Castle (3 km away) in the defense of the Florentine territories against the invasions of the Sienese republic.
Toward the end of the 15th century the walls of the castle were severely damaged, and when peace was declared in the middle of the 16th century, the manor was turned into a country residence and farming estate.
The estate is still personally run by the Ricasoli Firidolfi family, producing wine and olive oil from their own vineyards and olive groves and ,during the months of September and October, offers its guests the great opportunity of assisting at traditional harvesting activities

Bindaccio, situated in the south wing of the Castle, was a fortified tower that can still be recognized in the structure of the house, spreading over three different levels. The Baron Giovanni Ricasoli has restored the apartment respecting its origin, creating a house full of charm. Focal point of the house is the spacious living room on the first floor, which leads to an other terrace overlooking the Sienese valley arriving to the Monte Amiata, and from the Chianti hills to the "crete senesi". The decoration, personally attended to by Baroness Elisabetta Ricasoli, is cozy and inviting, maintaining at the same time the simple sienese style. Across the central court, beyond a gate, lies a pretty garden with a small pool which is used by guests and the proprietors,.
